Spam is a continuing problem in today’s business world. It has been reported that 50% of all emails sent are Spam. Spam is so much more than a simple annoyance. It can become extremely harmful to a businesses management of employees and security of an I.T. Infrastructure.
Spam can lead to harmful viruses that can result in identity theft, fraud and not to mention expensive technical bills to repair a computer network due to viruses. Spam sometimes contains Phishing which will try to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Reports have shown a 50% increase in the amount of Spam containing Phishing schemes.
Spam will also eat away at a company’s efficiency. Thousands of Spam emails are sent daily, which leads to employees having to sort through Spam. It decreases productivity and on average can cost a company $1,930 a year for each employee that sorts through, or looks into Spam mail. Spam can also paralyze an employee’s efficiency if computers and networks were put down due to an aggressive virus sent through Spam.
Research shows that Spam will cost businesses $20.5 billion annually in decreased productivity as well as in technical expenses. In today’s rough economy it is important to efficiently manage your assets which include employees and I.T. networks that may be volatile to Spam. |
